Traditional Psychotherapies
Focusing in extraordinary interpersonal space, Gestalt, Rational Emotive, Cognitive, and Psychoanalytic traditions are spoken here. My general stance is that of a radical humanist. Religious beliefs are honored and respected as significant, and are of deep interest. 12 steppers welcome.
Integrative Breath Therapies
The breath is the gateway to extraordinary energies, awarenesses, and growth toward healing. Breathwork is offered in face to face sessions only.
Hypnotic Psychotherapies such as Hypno-Behavioral Therapy
Anyone who can watch a movie can allow themselves to be hypnotized. Hypnotic therapies are available in face to face sessions only.
Relationship Therapies
Relationships thrive where adequate communication at the level of the emotions is generally present. People who are aware and unashamed of their personal issues are most able to communicate in ways that prosper relationships. Relationship therapies focus upon creating and/or strengthening in the individuals involved the kinds of personal awarenesses that facilitate effective communication of the emotions, one to another. All modes of individual psychotherapy can be adapted to facilitate successful relationships.
Therapy in Virtual Space
Dr. Sussman’s incorporation of virtual spaces into the therapeutic space predates the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially in a spacious country like Canada, and also for any clients from Georgia, geographic distance can make face to face meetings impossible. Technological solutions exist, and while distance therapeutics render formal altered state methods less workable, they are not without their advantages. If the approach at Sussman Psychological speaks to you but distance presents an obstacle to face to face attendance, technological solutions can often overcome it. At Sussman Psychological we welcome the opportunity to communicate with people toward better understanding of whether therapy in virtual space is appropriate.
As we navigate the practical realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, the implications of the mainstream medical information we have place restrictions on the possibility of meeting face to face. These limitations are present in addition to the “safe” answers to the usual screening questions you already have seen. One prerequisite for having face-to-face meetings is that clients be fully vaccinated against SARS-Cov-2. Any recommended boosters need to be taken when the mainstream medical experts suggest that they be taken. Masks are available if you are more comfortable using one. Hand cleaner is of course provided. If you wish, discussion of how “senseless’ or “stupid” an imposition following mainstream medical instruction represents to you, you are invited to bring that perception (and the emotions it evokes in you) into your therapy session so that healing can come of it. If this requirement is unacceptable to you, meeting in virtual space is an excellent and safe option.
Consulting Services
Teacher, esoterica and exoterica
Dr. Sussman is an experienced lecturer and teacher. He is known for his ability to demystify complex issues in psychology and metaphysics, making them available to people who have no formal training in such matters. In this way, esoteric and scientific knowledge alike can be applied in understanding real world issues.
Philosopher
The ways we organize our perceptions of phenomena in fact create the world in which we live. When disturbing phenomena come to accumulate in one's world and effectively resist one's efforts to resolve them, often enough all one can change is perspective. Philosophical interventions can in fact change the world in which we live, including the nature of the phenomena we confront there.
Healer
Only the wounded can heal. In fact, healing is the natural consequence of wounding. At Sussman Psychological, it is strongly asserted that most psychological conditions that are viewed medically as diseases or disorders are in fact wounds where obstacles, like the post of a pierced earring, are preventing or perturbing natural healing processes. Once these obstacles are identified and removed, healing is the result.
Compassionate Witness
The personal growth process can feel isolating; and that sense of isolation can be daunting. Often enough we find ourselves fearful to take the next step because we have no one in our social circle with whom to safely share. At Sussman Psychological, clients willing to take the risk find they have a compassionate traveling companion every step of the way.
